Tim Kullick
Executive Vice President

Tim Kullick is responsible for overseeing Red Ventures' paid and natural search marketing practice areas. Prior to joining Red Ventures, Tim owned and operated a chain of home improvement franchises specializing in bathroom remodeling. While taking the business from startup to four locations in five years, he also provided strategy and operations consulting services to several retailers, retail industry vendors, and private equity firms with retail industry holdings. Prior to launching his own business, Tim held leadership roles in strategic planning, e-commerce, and home services at The Home Depot, the world's largest home improvement retailer. He also spent 6 years advising senior leadership of Fortune 500 companies as a strategy consultant with McKinsey & Company. Tim graduated from the University of Colorado, summa cum laude, and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.

What sparked your interest in Red Ventures? Through running my own business prior to joining Red Ventures, I learned that acquiring customers is challenging, expensive, and fraught with risk.  You spend a bunch of money and hope that it makes the phone ring.  I thought Red Ventures had a great business model that would resonate with a lot of companies in that it takes on all of the marketing risk and only gets paid when it brings them a customer.  It turns a very risky, fixed cost into a variable one.

What do you remember most about your interview process? It was very much like interviewing with a consulting firm.  I met a lot of very bright people and discussed a number of case-like business problems.  It was very engaging.

What made you realize Red Ventures was the place for you? I felt like I could have a big impact, but at the same time I knew it would be a great learning experience and that I would be pushed and challenged.  Also, I sensed that Red Ventures was on the cusp of really scaling.

What is the best part about working at Red Ventures? Everyone, at every level, is given a great deal of responsibility.  The pace is very fast, and the people are a lot of fun.

How has your career progressed during your time at Red Ventures? Red Ventures has grown and changed fast since I joined 2 years ago, and my role has evolved over that time.  My scope of responsibility has increased significantly, from overseeing one group with a handful of people, to 5 groups with almost 30 people.

Finish this sentence: "Red Ventures is…" Like a cross between a consulting firm, a marketing company, and a startup - lots of very smart and driven people, very data and numbers-driven, a lot of creativity, and we move very fast.

When is the last time you laughed out loud at work? A few minutes ago - I heard Susan laughing so hard talking to Dan in the office next to mine, it made me start laughing.

What did you wear to work today? Blue jeans and a sweater.  I was told I looked very "California-ish".  I am not quite sure what to make of that.

Where did you go on your last great vacation - OR - What are you doing this weekend? I'm hoping to get up early to play some tennis with a neighbor of mine, coach my daughter's basketball game, have dinner with a colleague from work and his wife, and do some mountain biking with another colleague or two from work.
