Joe Peterson, president of DirectStarTV, named to Charlotte Business Journal’s annual list of the city’s most promising business leaders.
CHARLOTTE, N.C.– Joe Peterson of Red Ventures, a Charlotte-based online marketing company, has been named to the Charlotte Business Journal’s “Forty under 40” list of the city’s most promising business leaders. Peterson is president of DirectStarTV, Red Ventures’ business unit that acquires new customers for DIRECTV.
Red Ventures is a leader in customer acquisition solutions for verticals such as paid television, home security, satellite radio, for-profit education and home improvement. Its business model blends online prospecting with high-touch phone sales, converting leads into new customers for companies including DIRECTV, ADT Security Services, and SIIRUS Satellite Radio. The platform is scalable to many verticals, and Red Ventures is growing rapidly as a result – it was ranked fourth on the 2007 Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing U.S. private companies.
“The entire Red Ventures family congratulates Joe on this achievement,” said Ric Elias, CEO of Red Ventures. “Joe is a clear choice for an award that blends business achievement and community service. Not only has he brought about remarkable growth at DirectStarTV over the past two years, he also gives selflessly of his time to the Charlotte community as a youth sports coach.”
To make the “Forty under 40” list, nominees must have achieved notable success in business as well as in community service. Under Peterson’s leadership, DirectStarTV grew seven times in size from 2005-2007. It was named DIRECTV’s dealer of the year in 2006. Peterson’s community activities include coaching youth soccer and basketball in Metrolina Ministries and Calvary Church youth sports leagues.
This is the third time a Red Ventures executive has made the “Forty under 40” list. Chief Marketing Officer Dan Feldstein was recognized in 2007. And Peter Smul, president of Security Choice, Red Ventures’ business focused on the home security industry, was recognized while serving as chief financial officer of the Charlotte Bobcats.
Peterson led the growth of multiple small to mid-size companies before joining Red Ventures, including EzGov, a software and solutions company that was recognized as the fastest-growing company in the state of Georgia during his four-year tenure. He graduated from Duke University and earned his MBA with honors from Harvard Business School. Peterson resides in south Charlotte with his wife and three children.
